God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform…
so go the words of one of our favorite hymns.
As a young boy from McKean County our family traveled to
Pittsburgh – passing through DuBois. Who would have ever
imagined that these “many” years latter my family would
be moving, not through, but TO DuBois? The seven of us
thank God for this opportunity and look forward to
“moving in.” We also thank Him for the warm welcome that
we have received from John and your Pastor Parish
Committee, Pastor Beal and Cora Lee, and Ed.
I speak for the Miller family when I say that we look
forward to getting to know you and be known by you. It
seems that folks often ask pastors to be “brief” in
their comments, sermons, prayers and so on – so I will
be brief in this short introduction of our family. We
come to DuBois from the First United Methodist Church of
Greenville where we have enjoyed six happy years. Prior
to that we
served United Methodist churches in Unionville (9 years)
and Midway (12 years). I am a graduate of the University
of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. I
have also taken courses at Penn State, Gordon-Conwell
Theological Seminary, and Reformed Seminary.
My wife, Suzanne, and I have been blessed with six
children: James (18), Abigail (16), Noah (14),
Rebecca (12), Nathan (7), and Rachel (24) who is married
and lives near Pittsburgh. We view our
ministry as a “family affair” and truly appreciate
knowing that yours is a family friendly church. All of
us sincerely look forward to joining with you in the
wonderful ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Each year we pastors are asked to write out our
“personal mission statement.” I have always
found this to be a somewhat difficult and challenging
assignment while at the same time recognizing it to be a
worthwhile exercise. I will share my attempt with you
and look forward to learning yours along the way as we
travel together. “I strive as a husband, father, and
pastor to raise my family for the Lord, to be a
pastor/teacher equipping the saints for ministry, to
discern and improve opportunities for evangelism, to
think and act biblically in faith, life, and ministry,
and to enjoy the life God has given me.”
Again, We thank God for the opportunity to serve Him
with you in and through First UMC DuBois |
