Sonny Days
God is good! Our three year old class is full with nine children coming two days a week. They have a new teacher this year, Valerie Kucenski. If you were to stop in the church on a Monday or Wednesday, you will meet Val. Another new face to our preschool is Tammy McConnell, she was a substitute for us last year and this year is teaching one of the pre-k classes. Returning from previous years, is Tammy Kuntz, pre-K teacher, and Dina Kirkwood, our floating aide. I handle administrative duties as well as a part-time aide in the three year old classroom.

Thank you for praying for Sonny Days and please continue to keep the children and the staff in your prayers. Look for October preschool news and events in the November newsletter. -Andrea Beck-DePue

Nursery News

We are excited about the nursery coming back to FUM! A crib has been donated that meets safety standards, (Thank you, Thank you!) but we are in need of a new crib mattress. The changing station is already set up in the back corner of the large preschool room (with the castle). If you would like to serve by babysitting during the worship services, there is a pink sign-up sheet right outside the nursery door. Please sign your name and phone number on any date you choose. You will need to arrive in the Nursery 10 minutes before service time. If there are no babies by 20 minutes into the service you may go to the sanctuary and sit in the back, but please be alert to parents taking their children to the back or out of the sanctuary so that you are standing by to help them. Please see Andrea Beck-DePue or Suzanne Miller for more information.

Heaven By: Randy Alcorn

As the years pass and we watch more and more of our family, friends and mentors pass away, it is only natural to ask questions about heaven. However, our understanding of heaven is often limited to a few half-forgotten Sunday school lessons and the insubstantial images provided by popular movies and T.V. Fortunately, in Heaven Randy Alcorn provides us with a thoroughly researched and biblically definitive description of heaven. As Alcorn addresses our most serious questions about heaven, including the nature of judgment, and answers a few of our less serious questions as well, including the accessibility of cafe mochas the sweet by and by, we will develop a deeper understanding of our eternal destination and will find the courage to strive for heaven while we're living on earth.

All Things New October Youth News:
Are you confused about how to share the gospel message? Better yet, are you confused about the gospel message? We at ATN have teamed up with Dare 2 Share ministries to take the youth group on ‚The Gospel Journey‛. What is the GOSPEL Journey you ask?

Sharing the gospel with someone else is like taking them on a journey with six stops along the way. The evangelist becomes a guide of sorts who brings their fellow sojourners to six stops along the way to pause and ponder the landscape of the story of the Bible, the gospel message. This journey begins in Genesis chapter one with the creation of humanity and concludes with the last chapter of the Bible, Revelation chapter twenty two. In between there are twists and turns, break ups and make ups, mystery and intrigue but the driving message of the plot is that from the ashes of sin comes the redemption of mankind through the death of Christ and His resurrection from the dead.

In many ways this journey is like a fairy tale that just happens to be true. It could begin "Once upon a time" and conclude "and they lived happily ever after." This journey through the storyline of the Bible is filled with mankind's weak attempts at reconciliation toward a God whose heart humanity had broken. Much of the Old Testament is filled with examples of how sinful humanity attempted to gain God's acceptance through good deeds (Cain and his vegetables), obedience to God's command-ments and a seemingly endless array of blood sacrifices. But all of these failed attempts prepared the way for the coming of Christ and the hope that He offered by His once and for all sacrifice on the cross.

The irreducible minimum of the gospel message can be communicated in an acrostic with six letters in it that happen to spell out the word "gospel".
God created us to be with him. (Genesis 1-2)
Our sin separated us from God. (Genesis 3)
Sins cannot be removed by good deeds. (Genesis 4 - Malachi 4)

Vivian Brown Class News…..

On September 28, 2008 we had our first monthly meeting in the church social hall. It was a tureen lunch and the food was great. It was previously stated we would go to the home of Betty Brown for a picnic, but changed our plans because we were wrapping shoe boxes for Samaritans Purse and it seemed easier at the church. Please feel free to pick up a wrapped box or 2 or 3 to fill up and return to the church by the beginning of November. It’s for an excellent cause as you know when you see pictures of those little kids opening up their Christmas boxes. Please help us make this a successful project FUMC.

Our next meeting will be at the home of Rheva Chapman at Narrows Creek. Our program will be presented by Erin Shaffer and it is about their missionary group, ‘Won by One’. We welcome guests anytime at our monthly meetings and our Sunday School Class and hope you will become regular members. Our Sunday School Class meets every Sunday at 9:30 am in the church parlor and our monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of every month at Noon in the church social hall.

Lord Prop Us Up!

I think of the old deacon who always prayed, 'Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side.

After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed it so fervently.

He answered, 'Well sir, you see, it's like this...I got an old barn out back. It's been there a long time; it's withstood a lot of weather; it's gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years. It's still standing. But one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn't fall.

Then I got to thinking about that and how much I was like that old barn. I've been around a long time. I've withstood a lot of life's storms. I've withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I've withstood a lot of hard times, and I'm still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask the Lord to prop us up on our leaning side, 'cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning at times.

Sometimes we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn't. So we need to pray, 'Lord, prop us up on our leaning  side, so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the Lord.''
